Fred Dearborn
Fred is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Colorado and a Neurotherapist at Neurotherapy of Colorado Springs. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Colorado College and his Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. Licensed since 1996, Fred has maintained a successful private counseling practice for over twenty-five years with a primary clinical focus on trauma treatment and nervous system regulation.
Fred is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), trauma-informed hypnotherapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with individuals impacted by a wide range of traumatic experiences, including sexual trauma, traumatic grief, motor vehicle accidents, relationship and attachment wounds, family-of-origin challenges, and medical trauma.
His work is grounded in helping clients regulate their nervous systems, process difficult experiences, and restore a sense of safety, connection, and meaning in their lives.
Fred approaches therapy through an integrative lens that combines evidence-based trauma therapies with brain-based interventions. By addressing both the psychological and neurological components of trauma, he helps clients move beyond symptom management and toward deeper healing, resilience, and improved quality of life.
Fred’s path to neurotherapy began through his own clients. After several individuals reported significant improvements following neurotherapy treatment at Neurotherapy of Colorado Springs, Fred became curious about the process and reached out to Chris Edwards. Through their conversations—and the positive results they were both seeing with shared clients—a collaborative professional relationship naturally developed.
Wanting to understand the process firsthand, Fred decided to undergo a course of neurotherapy himself. During his qEEG brain mapping assessment, he was struck by how accurately the evaluation identified several personal challenges without any prior disclosure.
Through neurotherapy and biofeedback training, Fred experienced meaningful improvements in his own cognitive functioning and overall well-being.
“I went from fragmented, disrupted sleep to consistently restorative rest. I also regained the ability to read for extended periods without fatigue—even complex and technical material.”
These personal results deepened Fred’s appreciation for neurotherapy and reinforced its value as a powerful complement to psychotherapy.
Fred subsequently completed neurofeedback training under Chris Edwards and Alexa Transtrum and now divides his professional time between providing neurotherapy at Neurotherapy of Colorado Springs and his long-standing private counseling practice. His integrative approach blends evidence-based trauma therapies with brain-based interventions to support lasting healing, improved nervous system regulation, and enhanced quality of life.
Outside of the clinic, Fred enjoys an active Colorado lifestyle.
“I have lived in Colorado since 1985 and deeply value an active outdoor lifestyle. I believe that brain health is central to vitality, emotional resilience, and longevity. I enjoy hiking, skiing, fly fishing, pickleball, and spending time in the mountains. I believe the holistic model at Neurotherapy of Colorado Springs – integrating neurotherapy, biofeedback, light-based interventions, psychotherapy, nutrition, and foundational behavioral practices – help both myself and my clients maintain both cognitive performance and physical well-being.”
Fred is deeply appreciative of the comprehensive and integrative approach here at Neurotherapy of Colorado Springs. He believes it represents one of the most effective and enduring models available in the region. He is committed to offering this level of care to clients seeking healing from trauma, improved emotional regulation, and greater overall well-being.
